What keeps a tall building from falling down? How do bridges support weight? How do you design a safe processing plant?
The skills and knowledge that answer all these questions and more are the reasons why we can have sprawling cities with buildings of all shape and sizes, from residential homes to office blocks and iconic architectural buildings.
This broad field of work offers a vast number of job opportunities at all levels. In charge of any construction project is the project manager, who is involved in every stage of the construction process, from the planning to the final closing. The manager may have a supervisor (senior project manager) or assistants (junior project managers).
On-site roles such as site managers require at least five years’ relevant experience. Other positions in the industry include laborers, quantity surveyors and estimators as well as architects, structural workers and machinery operators.
