Materials Metal & Non-Metal is a field that incorporates elements of applied physics and chemistry. It is often commonly referred to as materials science or materials technology.
Why is it such an important field? Because it has made significant advances in various industries possible, from composite materials that plays an integral role in NASA’s space shuttle thermal protection system, through to PVC polymers of plumbing systems in homes and buildings.
In Malaysia, the advancement of materials science, technology and engineering to support the development of various industries creates an ever-growing demand for highly skilled professionals.
As a materials engineer, you hold the important responsibility for the research, specification, design and development of materials to advance technologies of many kinds. Your expertise lies in understanding the properties and behaviors of different substances, from raw materials to finished products.
There is an exciting range of different materials which you can choose to specialise in, including ceramics, chemicals, composites, glass, industrial minerals, metals, plastics, polymers and rubber.
